Leave the message box empty and choose Start voice chat. The xAI docs say Start voice chat "starts a live conversation on desktop, iPhone, and Android."

On October 16, 2026, the official @bot account announced: "Voice calls with Grok Bot are faster, more reliable, and better at remembering past conversations." That is the @bot account's claim. We haven't measured it ourselves.

Steps

Step 1: Open the conversation with your Bot in the Grok Bot desktop app or the mobile app.

Step 2: Make sure the message box is empty, then choose Start voice chat. There is no keyboard shortcut for it.

Step 3: Talk with the Bot. While you are on the call, the app shows Voice chat. On desktop, the sidebar can show Voice chat in progress.

Step 4: When the call ends, the conversation can include a Voice chat card.

Dictation and limits

If you only want to speak one message, use dictation. On desktop, press Cmd+D (Ctrl+D on Windows and Linux) or choose Start voice input. On iPhone and Android, choose Start dictation.

The docs don't list call length limits or say whether voice calls work on grok.com.
