How do I turn off training on my Grok Bot data?

Training on Grok Bot data follows your Cursor account. Sign in to your Cursor privacy settings with the same account and check that Privacy Mode is on.

Short answer

The Grok Bot settings docs don't list a training switch, because training follows your Cursor account instead. The xAI docs say, "Training opt-out follows the applicable Cursor account and privacy settings."

A Cursor staff member put it more directly on the Cursor forum: "Cursor Privacy Mode does apply to Grok Bot. With Privacy Mode on, your Grok Bot data isn’t used for training by Cursor or any model provider (including xAI)." So the setting to check is Privacy Mode on your Cursor account.

Steps

Step 1: Open your Cursor privacy settings in a browser. The Grok Bot get-started docs link to them with the words "Cursor privacy settings": https://cursor.com/dashboard/settings?openPrivacy=true

Step 2: Sign in with the same account you use for Grok Bot, so you change the right account. Cursor's sign-in help says, "Grok Bot uses your Cursor account. There is no separate Grok Bot login." A Cursor staff member also wrote that if a sign-in provider "returns a different email (for example a different Google account, or Apple’s “Hide My Email”), you get a separate, new account instead." In our own practice, we check which email our Grok Bot account uses before we sign in.

Step 3: Check that Privacy Mode is on. The same staff member wrote, "You can always check the current Privacy Mode setting in your account settings on cursor.com." Cursor's data-use page says that when Privacy Mode is enabled, "Customer Data will not be used for training by Cursor." We haven't seen that settings page ourselves, so we can't describe what it looks like. If your Cursor account uses Legacy Privacy Mode, note that the xAI docs say, "Grok Bot requires data storage and does not support Legacy Privacy Mode."

Cursor's privacy help page is less direct than the staff reply above. It says, "Privacy Mode in the Cursor editor prevents your code from being used for training by Cursor or model providers. Grok Bot runs on a separate product surface with its own data flows." When a Cursor staff reply and the docs disagree, we trust the staff reply, and that staff reply says Privacy Mode does apply to Grok Bot.

If it still fails

If your account is part of a Cursor team, the team's setting decides. A Cursor staff member wrote, "For teams, the team’s privacy setting governs all members." Cursor's privacy help page adds, "Teams and Enterprise admins can enforce it organization-wide so members cannot disable it." In that case, ask your team admin.

If you want a written answer for your own account, email Cursor support at hi@cursor.com. That is the address on Cursor's Get help page for Grok Bot, and the page asks you to include "The email on your Grok Bot account."
