How do I start a group chat in Grok Bot?

As of Grok Bot 0.71, the + button on desktop makes a new Bot. Press Cmd+Shift+N or use Cmd+K to start a group chat instead.

Short answer

As of Grok Bot 0.71, the + button on the desktop app opens Create New Bot instead of a group chat. Cursor's staff say that was an intentional change, and that group chats are still there. We haven't tested this ourselves yet, so here's what Cursor's staff reply says to do on Grok Bot 0.71.

Steps

Step 1: On desktop, press Cmd+Shift+N on a Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows and Linux. You can also open the command palette with Cmd+K on a Mac, or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, and choose "New group chat".

Step 2: On iPhone or Android, xAI's docs say to "use + → New Group Chat."

If it still fails

If the shortcut doesn't open a group chat for you, check which version of Grok Bot you're on. This answer is about Grok Bot 0.71, and the Cursor forum thread listed in the sources below is the best place to follow for changes.

The (+) button opening Create New Bot was an intentional change in 0.71. Group chats are still there, but there’s no longer a visible way to reach them from the main UI

press Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on macOS), or open the command palette with Ctrl+K and choose “New group chat”

Use Cmd on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux unless a line says otherwise.

On iPhone or Android, use + → New Group Chat.
