No. Cursor picks Grok Bot's model and there is no model picker. A bot can still call a local model in Ollama as a tool, such as an embedding model.

No. You can't swap Grok Bot's own model for yours. xAI's docs say Cursor manages model selection, so the app has no model picker. A bot can still call a local model as a tool for specific jobs.
Step 1: Install Ollama, a tool that runs AI models, on the bot's own cloud computer.
Step 2: Run the model you need in Ollama. In our own setup, we run a community build of IBM's Granite embedding model.
Step 3: Have the bot call that model as a tool. Our bot uses Granite to turn notes into vectors, which are lists of numbers, stored in a vector database. That gives the bot semantic search, which means search by meaning.
Granite is an embedding model, not a chat model, and it doesn't replace the bot's own model. We expect a chat model in Ollama would work the same way, as a tool the bot calls, but we haven't tested it.
A model on your own hardware is different, because the bot runs on its own cloud computer. xAI's docs say a bot runs commands on your local computer only when that capability is enabled and you approve it under your local-computer policy. The docs describe a Mac or Windows computer, and we haven't tested running a model that way.
xAI's docs also say to treat temporary directories, manually installed packages, and uncommitted application state as replaceable. We run a script that restarts Ollama if it stops, or reinstalls it if it's gone.
By default, Ollama listens only on its own machine, at 127.0.0.1 port 11434. Ollama's FAQ shows a tunnel app such as ngrok as one way to reach it from elsewhere. We haven't tested whether Grok Bot can use a model that way. ngrok's docs warn that public endpoints are open to the public internet unless you secure them with authentication, and they show how to add protection such as Basic Auth or IP restriction.
