How does shopping work in Grok Bot?

Grok Bot v0.78.1 shows products as cards, starts a Buy now order you approve, tracks the order, and works with Shop Pay. Here's what the changelog says.

Short answer

When you shop with your Bot, it shows products as cards, and Buy now starts an order that you approve. I checked the Grok Bot changelog for version 0.78.1, and it says, "On a product page, in-stock options come first, options no store has are disabled, and Buy now starts an order you approve." Once you place the order, the changelog says the Bot tracks it and tells you when it ships or arrives. It also says you can connect Shop Pay in the Vault's Payments tab.

I haven't tried any of this in my own account yet. These steps come from the changelog, SpaceXSI's docs, and posts from people on X, and I say below what I couldn't find.

Steps

Step 1: Ask your Bot to find what you want to buy, and look at the cards. The changelog says, "Shopping with a Bot shows products as cards with photos, rating, price, and store, plus up to two badges such as Top rated." It also says, "Three or four product results scroll in a carousel, and you can swipe through each product's photos." I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell you which wording makes your Bot show cards.

Step 2: Open the product you want and pick your options. The changelog says, "in-stock options come first, options no store has are disabled", so an option you can't pick is one no store has.

Step 3: Choose Buy now. The changelog says it "starts an order you approve." Read what the approval shows before you say yes, and say no if anything looks wrong.

Step 4: If you already use Shop Pay, you can connect it. The changelog says, "Connect Shop Pay in the Vault's Payments tab, then pick it in Pay with or make it the payment method Bots use first." I checked SpaceXSI's Vault and secure sign-in page, and it says you open the Vault from Settings, then Vault. It lists "Payment accounts, wallets you can connect, such as Link or X Money, and Default payment method, which Grok Bot pays with first." I didn't find Shop Pay named on that page. The changelog doesn't say you need Shop Pay to shop, so you can skip this step.

Step 5: After you place the order, let your Bot track it. The changelog says, "After you place an order, the Bot tracks it and tells you when it ships or arrives, and shipment cards show the carrier and stage." Check a shipment card for the carrier and stage.

If it still fails

If your Bot can't buy at a store, the store may be blocking Bots. Amazon's Conditions of Use let it tell AI agents to stay off its site, and some users report that other stores ask the Bot to prove it's human. My page Can my Grok Bot buy something on Amazon? covers what I'd do. If every store blocks your Bot, shop in your own browser and use the Bot only to compare options.

What the changelog says about shopping

Source: Grok Bot changelog, v0.78.1 (October 27, 2026). Every line below is word for word from the v0.78.1 entry, and I added nothing of my own. I listed only the shopping lines, so this isn't the whole entry; the changelog link has all of it. The entry says "Also includes 0.78.0" and has no separate 0.78.0 entry, so I can't say which line came in which version. New

The same entry has this line under Fixed: "Order cards leave out Ship to for orders that ship nothing, and orders through a store's connector pay with that connector's own options."

Three earlier lines are related. The v0.77.0 page quotes this one: "The Vault has a Payments tab where you pick the payment method Bots use first, and you still approve every purchase." It also quotes this one: "Order Concierge and Deal Watcher templates track your orders, refunds, and returns, and watch prices and coupons, never buying without your OK." I haven't looked into those two templates beyond that line. The v0.75.2 page quotes this one: "Bots can pay with Shop Pay, through Shop checkout where a store accepts it and with a one-time Shop card elsewhere."

One thing to check about saved cards

The changelog says Buy now "starts an order you approve." SpaceXSI's Vault page says something I can't fit together with that. I checked SpaceXSI's Vault and secure sign-in page, and it says, "A card saved in Vault fills in at checkout without asking you each time, and no setting requires your approval for each use." The same page says, "If you want to approve every payment yourself, don't save the card". I haven't tested which of these applies when you choose Buy now, and I didn't find a page that explains both. If approving every payment matters to you, the way that page gives is to not save the card. My page What is Grok Bot's Vault, and how does it work with 1Password? has more on the Payments tab and on saved cards.

How people are describing it

Posts on X from October 29, 2026. Quotes are word for word, and I credit each person by the name their profile shows.

Ben Lang's post is a list of what shipped, not a description of using it. Evan Bacon's post says the buying happened "while developing the new shopping flow in Grok Bot", so it describes buying parts while building it, not a customer's experience. I didn't find "Find the best deals" or "secure payment" in the changelog lines above, so I'm treating those two as Chevy Phillip's own words, not as something the changelog promises. In the posts I read, I didn't find someone describing an order they placed for themselves with Buy now and tracked to their door, so this page has no such example.
