Does Route traffic through this computer stop sites like Reddit from blocking my Bot?

Route traffic through this computer sends your Bot's web traffic through your desktop. One user says it helps with Reddit, and I found no official source for that.

Short answer

Route traffic through this computer is a setting in the Grok Bot desktop app. I checked Cursor's Settings and notifications page, and it says it sends "your Grok Bot computer's web traffic through the current desktop," and "Destinations see your desktop's IP address." In plain words, websites see your own computer's address instead of the address of your Bot's cloud computer.

I checked Cursor's Grok Bot FAQs page, and it says, "Some sites block traffic from cloud computers," and it lists this setting as one thing to try "so sites see your own connection." It doesn't name Reddit or LinkedIn, and it doesn't promise that the setting stops a block. I didn't find anything about sites blocking your Bot in the changelog or on xAI's Settings and notifications page. One user, @0xNotFounder, passed along a tip that with it on, "Reddit and LinkedIn stop blocking it." I haven't tested that, and I couldn't find anything official that confirms it, so please treat it as one person's tip and not a promise that it will work for you.

Steps

Step 1: In the Grok Bot desktop app, open Settings, then Computer.

Step 2: Under Your computer, turn on Route traffic through this computer.

Step 3: Ask your Bot to load the site again, because the route applies to new connections.

Step 4: Look at the same setting for the count of blocked sites, which shows how many were blocked this session.

Step 5: To stop routing, turn the setting off.

If it still fails

If the toggle is off and locked with "Disabled by your admin. You can't turn this on.", your Enterprise admin has turned off Allow Local Egress Routing, and you can't change it yourself.

If a site still blocks your Bot, I haven't found a documented fix. The site may be blocking for a reason this setting doesn't change.

What one person on X reports

Kai Milstein (@0xNotFounder) posted on October 25, 2026, listing tricks from Grok Bot videos. Their first one reads: "route traffic through your computer: Reddit and LinkedIn stop blocking it" They credit that tip to Kacper Rutkiewicz, so it is a tip they passed along from videos, and I can't tell from their post whether they tried it themselves. They give the steps as Settings → Computer, then turn on Route traffic through this computer.

That's one user's report, and I haven't tested it. I didn't find Reddit or LinkedIn named in the changelog, on xAI's Settings and notifications or Troubleshooting pages, or on Cursor's Settings and notifications, Connect to private networks, or Grok Bot FAQs pages, so I can't back that claim with an official source. The closest I found is Cursor's Grok Bot FAQs line that some sites block traffic from cloud computers, with this setting as one thing to try. Whether it helps with a particular site, I can't say.

What the changelog says

Source: Grok Bot changelog. The earliest line I found, from September 11, 2026, says, "Turn on Route egress through this desktop in Settings to send web traffic from your Bot's computer through your own computer instead of the cloud." The two that matter most for this page are in the v0.75.5 and v0.75.8 entries, below.

The v0.75.5 count is about sites that resolve to a private or VPN address, which I read as sites on a private network, such as a company's internal sites. It isn't a count of sites like Reddit refusing your Bot.

What it does and doesn't do

Here is what I read on Cursor's Settings and notifications page and on its Connect to private networks page:

Without the setting, Grok Bot computers "run in Cursor's cloud and reach the internet through shared static egress IP addresses," which I read as the Bot going out to the internet from shared addresses that don't change.

When I read xAI's Settings and notifications page, the route paragraph ends with "and the Bot can reach networks available from that device." On Cursor's version of that page, sites that resolve to a private or VPN address are blocked, and the v0.75.5 changelog line matches that. I'm following the changelog and Cursor's version, and I'm flagging the difference so you can check your own Settings.

Before you turn it on

Since destinations see your desktop's IP address, the sites your Bot visits will see traffic from wherever that desktop is. Think about that before you turn it on, especially for sites where your account is tied to a location. That's my reading, not something the docs say.

This is a Settings switch on your own desktop, and I didn't find anything in the docs about asking your Bot to turn it on, so I'd open Settings, then Computer, then Your computer, and check it yourself.

With Route traffic through this computer on, Settings shows how many sites were blocked because they resolve to a private or VPN address.

For most accounts, with Route traffic through this computer on, the connection comes back as soon as the Bot's computer wakes.

Under Your computer, turn on Route traffic through this computer to send your Grok Bot computer's web traffic through the current desktop. The route applies to new connections. Destinations see your desktop's IP address.

Sites that resolve to a private or VPN address are blocked unless they've been allowed for your organization, and the setting shows how many were blocked this session.

The setting applies to one desktop.

Cursor docs, Connect to private networks: https://cursor.com/docs/grok-bot/private-networks

Grok Bot computers run in Cursor's cloud and reach the internet through shared static egress IP addresses.

The route doesn't open your private network to the Bot.

xAI docs, Settings and notifications: https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/settings-and-notifications

Destinations see your desktop's IP address, and the Bot can reach networks available from that device.

Some sites block traffic from cloud computers.

You can also turn on Route traffic through this computer in Settings > Computer, under Your computer, so sites see your own connection.

It applies to new connections and works while the Grok Bot desktop app is open.
