Short answer

You open Connect apps in Grok Bot, add Gmail, and finish the Google sign-in in your browser. Once it's connected, Grok Bot can search and read your mail, write drafts and send them, and apply labels in that mailbox. If Gmail says Needs auth or Disconnected, open it and choose Authenticate to finish signing in.

How do I connect Gmail to Grok Bot?

I checked Grok Bot's help page on connecting apps, and here's how it works. You open Connect apps, add Gmail, and finish the Google sign-in in your browser. Once it's connected, Gmail can search and read mail, draft and send, and apply labels on the connected mailbox (Connect apps).

What do I need first?

The lowest plan that includes Grok Bot is Premium on The X Subscription, at $30/month before tax (xAI pricing). Plus and Free don't include it (Plans and billing).

What are the steps?

Here's the order that works (Connect apps):

  1. Install Grok Bot and sign in. On a computer, get the installer from the Grok Bot page of the Cursor dashboard. On a phone, install Grok Bot from the App Store or Google Play. Then choose Sign in and finish signing in with your Cursor account in your browser. There's no separate Grok Bot login (Get started with Grok Bot, Sign in to Grok Bot).
  2. Get Premium or higher at x.ai/pricing. If your account already includes Grok Bot, skip this step.
  3. Open Connect apps from the sidebar. On the phone, tap your avatar in the top left, then Connect apps. On my computer, the Connect Apps window opens with a search box at the top that says "Search across apps and skills," a row of category buttons like Productivity and Communication, and a Recommended for you list underneath. If the Bot shows you a Connect card in chat, you can start from that card instead. Don't wait for one, though. The Bot only shows a Connect card when an app needs you to sign in (Grok Bot How Tos).
  4. Type "gmail" in that search box. On my screen, Gmail comes up first under Plugins, so open it and add it.
  5. When Grok Bot asks you to Authorize or Authenticate, your browser takes you to Google's sign-in. Finish it there within about 10 minutes (Grok Bot How Tos).
  6. If the sign-in stalls, you can bring the page back. Choose Reconnect on Gmail in Connect apps, or Reopen on the in-chat card. If the card says authorization didn't finish or failed, choose Retry instead (Grok Bot How Tos).
  7. Check that Gmail shows up under Installed. If it says Needs auth or Disconnected, open it and choose Authenticate (Authorize on the phone).

What does the Google permission screen ask, and what does allowing it mean?

When I connected Gmail, Google first opened a page titled "Sign in with Google" that asked me to choose an account "to continue to Grok," and I picked the account I wanted to connect. The next page says "Grok wants access to your Google Account," and under "Select what Grok can access" it lists two Gmail permissions, both already checked: "View your email messages and settings." and "Read, compose, and send emails from your Gmail account." Each one has a "See access details" link, and a "Select all" box sits above them. Under "Make sure you trust Grok," the page links Grok's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service and says, "To make changes at any time, go to your Google Account." The two buttons at the bottom are Cancel and Continue. I pressed Continue, and the last page said "Authorization complete!" Read each line on your own screen before you choose. Here's what connecting means (Connect apps):

Can I connect two Gmail accounts?

In my setup, yes. My Gmail Accounts panel shows more than one Gmail account marked Connected, with an Add Another Account button. The help page still says "No. Gmail connects one mailbox at a time," so your screen may differ.

Gmail is added, but the Bot says it's missing. Why?

Added only means Gmail is installed. It doesn't mean you're signed in. Open Connect apps, open Gmail, and look at its status. If it says Needs auth or Disconnected, choose Authenticate (Authorize on the phone) and finish the sign-in (Connect apps). If it says Connected, send the Bot a new message and ask it to try Gmail again. If that still fails, remove Gmail, add it again, and sign in (Grok Bot How Tos).

What if Google says an admin needs to review Grok?

This happens with company Google accounts, before the Gmail sign-in finishes. A personal Gmail account doesn't need a company admin. On a work account, look for a request access button on the Google page and use it if it's there. Then wait until your admin approves Grok, and try Authorize again only after that. Switching browsers or connecting Gmail again won't clear an admin block (Connect apps).
