First you need access. If you're on The X Subscription, Cursor's plans page says, "Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super, and Ultra, for individuals and for team seats. Plus and Free don't include it." If you're still on a legacy Cursor plan, the same page says, "On legacy Cursor plans, Grok Bot access is included on every paid individual plan and on Cursor Teams." A Cursor staff member adds that on an individual legacy plan with request-based pricing, "Grok Bot isn’t available through any route." Once you have access, install the app, sign in, and create your first bot.
Step 1: Download "The Grok Bot desktop app for macOS, Windows, or Linux" from https://x.ai/bot and open it.
Step 2: Choose Sign in and finish signing in with your Cursor account in the browser. The docs say, "Grok Bot uses your Cursor account." For SuperGrok, they add, "If your access comes from a SuperGrok subscription, link it when the app asks".
Step 3: If your access comes from X Premium+, the plans page says: "Link your Grok account from the Grok Bot plan screen, signing in to Grok with the account that has X Premium+."
Step 4: If your access comes from a Grok Business seat, the plans page says: "Sign out of Grok Bot, then sign back in with Sign in with Grok using the Grok account that holds the seat. You don't need to buy anything or link from the plan screen."
Step 5: Create your first bot. Pick a suggested teammate, or choose Create your own and give it a short name and one primary job. Then tell the Bot in chat how it should work. Cursor's help says, "To change what a Bot works on, tell it in chat," and "For a lasting rule, ask it to remember." In our own setup, we run several bots this way, each with one main job.
Step 6: Give your Bot a first task. The Get started guide says a strong request includes an outcome, sources, constraints, a deliverable, and a review point. For the review point, the guide asks, "When should it stop for you?"
On a phone, being sent to a Cursor sign-in page is expected too. Here are the steps from the mobile page.
Step 7: Open Grok Bot on your phone and choose Log In or Sign Up.
Step 8: "Complete Cursor authentication in the browser."
Step 9: Return to the app.
Step 10: If your access comes from SuperGrok, choose Link Grok Account, finish linking in the browser, then choose Finished Linking? Refresh My Status.
If sign-in shows a Legacy Privacy Mode error, change your Cursor account's data setting. The docs say, "Grok Bot requires cloud data storage. Accounts using Legacy Privacy Mode must move to a supported Cursor data setting before Grok Bot can start." Other sign-in fixes are on the troubleshooting page.
The get-started page says, "You can also set up and use Grok Bot on mobile."
If you use the X button on a phone, it may help to sign in to X in your phone's browser first. The docs don't say whether sign-in can open the X app instead of a browser.
