Token-saving tips
Answered October 12, 2026. Usage, Routines.
When your weekly usage runs out, Cursor's Grok Bot help says, "To keep going now, add prepaid credit (The X Subscription), turn on on-demand usage (legacy Cursor plans), or move to a bigger plan." In our experience, the less your bot has to read and redo, the less usage it spends. We use eight habits for this. We plan the task in the first message. We give each outcome one bot. We use connectors before the browser. We wake bots with narrow event triggers, and we use the slowest schedule that still does the job when a timer is needed. We pause routines we don't need. We keep long material in files. And we send heavy coding to a Cloud Agent.

Security tips
Answered October 12, 2026. Security, Approvals.
Grok Bot can act in your real accounts, so we keep the big decisions with you. We use eight habits for this. We approve drafts before anything goes out. We tell the bot where to stop. We use Auto Review with narrow "Ask first" rules. We don't approve what we can't identify. We type passwords and codes ourselves. We keep approvals on when the bot reads outside content. We keep local-computer access off unless it's needed. And we connect only the tools a job needs.

General tips
Answered October 12, 2026. Best practices, Skills.
A Grok Bot works best when it knows the real goal, can show its work, and has its lasting rules written down. We use ten habits for this. We start from the goal and the source of truth. We ask for evidence. We ask the Bot to remember lasting rules. We keep facts in files, not memory. We keep bots quiet unless something matters. We have important work reviewed. We turn tested work into skills before automating it. We give routines a plan for missing data. We freeze the version we approved. And we redirect work just by sending a message.

How can my Grok Bot make an instructional video?
Answered October 18, 2026. Skills, Best practices.
The Grok Bot docs don't describe making videos. They do say that Grok Bot "works from a persistent cloud computer," and that "It can use a browser, command line, files, and connected tools without depending on your laptop remaining open." xAI's developer docs also describe a text-to-speech service that can "Convert text into spoken audio with a single API call."
In our experience, a Bot can do most of the work on its own computer. Ours wrote the script, built the slides, made the narration with xAI's text-to-speech, and put the video together. We checked the script before any narration was made, and we approved the third version of the video as is before it was published.
xAI's quickstart for its API says to "Create an API key," and its text-to-speech page links to "Get API Key." Cursor's help says to "Keep API keys and other credentials out of chat and ordinary files."

Can my Grok Bot make phone calls for me?
Answered October 18, 2026. Bots, Skills.
The official Grok Bot docs don't cover a Bot making phone calls. We went through the Grok Bot docs and Cursor's Grok Bot help. The voice features they describe, which are voice chat, dictation, and voice memos, are between you and your own Bot, and none of them is your Bot phoning a business.
The restaurant Bot in the post Elon Musk quoted on X is a third-party template called Call A Restaurant Reservation. Brian Roemmele built it, shared it on X, and says it's free. Its page says it "Calls restaurants for you to request a table, in the voice you pick, then reports back with transcript proof and can add the booking to your calendar or give you an .ics file." A transcript only proves the booking if the restaurant repeats your name, date, time and party size back. If it doesn't, call the restaurant to confirm. The page also says, "This AI bot was created by a third-party user, not by SpaceXSI."

What if the Spam-Call Scrubber template says "Couldn't add bot"?
Answered October 17, 2026. Troubleshooting, Bots.
The official Grok Bot docs don't cover the "Couldn't add bot" error, so we won't guess at a fix. Some people see "Couldn't create the Bot. Try again." instead, and this answer applies to that message too. Other people on X are reporting the same error, so it isn't only you. We haven't confirmed a workaround ourselves.
The best step is to email xAI support at support@x.ai. Include the template link, the exact error text, your country, and whether you're on desktop or phone, so they can trace it.
Spam-Call Scrubber is a free third-party Bot template. It was not made by xAI or by us.

Why did my Grok Bot routine run at the wrong time?
Answered October 17, 2026. Routines, Troubleshooting.
Grok Bot routines follow the time zone saved in the app's settings. Cursor's Grok Bot help says, "Schedules use the time zone in Settings, under Bot, labeled Timezone." xAI's docs describe the same setting as the "Timezone, which routines use for schedules."
The docs don't say whether telling your Bot your time zone in chat changes that setting, so check the setting itself. Then open the routine and check When to run, which Cursor's help says "shows the saved schedule in words, so you can confirm it matches what you meant."

How do I set up a Chief-of-Staff bot in Grok Bot?
Answered October 17, 2026. Bots, Best practices.
A Chief-of-Staff bot, or CoS bot, is the main bot you talk to. It does two jobs. First, it hands each task to the specialist bot that owns that kind of work. Second, it judges the finished result before it reaches you. It doesn't do the specialist's work itself.
xAI's Grok Bot docs list Chief of Staff as a use case that owns "a source-linked digest of what changed and what needs attention." The docs also say your Bots can "message each other, share context in group chats, and pass ownership of a task, so you aren't the router between tools." The docs don't describe the two jobs above, so that part is our own practice.
We keep our CoS bot as a thin router, which means it hands work off quickly instead of doing the work itself. In our experience, keeping the CoS bot a thin router frees it to take your next request instead of being stuck on the task it's working on. Your CoS bot can also hand the judging to another bot, such as a QA bot, so a different bot checks the work.
The quickest way to start is to copy the short setup message at the top of the Chief of Staff setup page and send it to your main bot. That message asks your bot to set itself up as your Chief of Staff using our suggested instructions, and to show you the exact changes and wait for your yes before it changes itself.

Can Grok Bot remove my phone number from spam-call lists?
Answered October 17, 2026. Skills, X.
The official Grok Bot docs don't cover removing your phone number from spam-call lists. We checked the docs and their FAQ and found nothing about spam calls, data brokers, or people-search opt-outs.
There is a third-party Bot template called Spam-Call Scrubber. The template page credits it to "Arash". On X, @MinimalDuck shared it and says, "I made it a free skill so you can do the same." It was not made by xAI or by us. The template page says it "Finds your phone number on people-search sites and data brokers, submits the opt-outs, finishes the email confirmations, and re-checks on the schedule you choose." The page also says, "This AI bot was created by a third-party user, not by SpaceXSI."
Eric tried the template once. That is one first-hand run, not official and not tested at scale, and we can't promise you'll get fewer calls.

How do I turn off training on my Grok Bot data?
Answered October 17, 2026. Privacy, Security.
The Grok Bot settings docs don't list a training switch, because training follows your Cursor account instead. The xAI docs say, "Training opt-out follows the applicable Cursor account and privacy settings."
A Cursor staff member put it more directly on the Cursor forum: "Cursor Privacy Mode does apply to Grok Bot. With Privacy Mode on, your Grok Bot data isn’t used for training by Cursor or any model provider (including xAI)." So the setting to check is Privacy Mode on your Cursor account.

Where can I use Grok Bot?
Answered October 16, 2026. Setup.
The xAI docs say Grok Bot runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, through the Grok Bot desktop app and the Grok Bot mobile app. Your Bots work on a cloud computer, so the same Bots are there on every device you sign in to.
xAI's Grok FAQ says Grok Bot "is not the same as Grok on grok.com or the Grok mobile apps." The Grok Bot docs don't say whether your Bots appear in the Grok app. A Cursor support engineer wrote on October 15, 2026, that "your bots will show up in the Grok app once it’s connected to the right account."
On October 17, 2026, our founder, Eric Starr, reported that our Bots show up in the Grok app. That result is our own experience, not something the docs say.
User report, not official: on October 16, 2026, @testingcatalog posted, "I just realized that Grok Bots have been rolled out on Grok web and mobile!"

How do I connect my X DMs to Grok Bot?
Answered October 16, 2026. X, Integrations.
Add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X. The xAI docs say: "For your DMs, bookmarks, home timeline, or who liked your posts, add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X."
Without the plugin, your Bot can only read public X content. The docs say this public access "is read-only and doesn't sign in as you."
On October 16, 2026, the official Grok Bot account on X posted, "Grok Bot can now read X Chat. Connect X, then ask Bot to work across your messages."
On October 16, 2026, Elon Musk posted: "Also, ask Grok @Bot to connect to your 𝕏 DMs. Best way to use it."
The docs say you can hand your Bot a task from X by tagging @bot in a post or reply. They don't describe chatting with your Bot inside X Chat.

How do I start a voice call with Grok Bot?
Answered October 16, 2026. Setup.
Leave the message box empty and choose Start voice chat. The xAI docs say Start voice chat "starts a live conversation on desktop, iPhone, and Android."
On October 16, 2026, the official @bot account announced: "Voice calls with Grok Bot are faster, more reliable, and better at remembering past conversations." That is the @bot account's claim. We haven't measured it ourselves.

How do I start a group chat in Grok Bot?
Answered October 16, 2026. Bots, Setup.
As of Grok Bot 0.71, the + button on the desktop app opens Create New Bot instead of a group chat. Cursor's staff say that was an intentional change, and that group chats are still there. We haven't tested this ourselves yet, so here's what Cursor's staff reply says to do on Grok Bot 0.71.

Can my Grok Bot buy something on Amazon?
Answered October 15, 2026. Shopping, Approvals.
Amazon's Conditions of Use let it tell AI agents like Grok Bot to stay off its site, so I'd have your Bot shop somewhere else instead of trying to get around the block.
The Agent Terms in Amazon's Conditions of Use say: "no Agent may access, use, or interact with Amazon Services if we have requested that the Agent refrain from accessing, using, or interacting with any Amazon Service."

How do I access Grok Bot from X?
Answered October 15, 2026. Setup, Tagging.
If you mean handing your Bot a request from X, rather than holding a live chat with it, the docs cover that through tagging. The Grok Bot docs say that to give your Bot your X DMs, you add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X. The docs still don't describe chatting with your Bot from inside your X messages, so we can't tell you how that would work.
The FAQ answers "Where do I talk to Grok Bot?" like this: "Use the Grok Bot desktop app on macOS, Windows, or Linux, or the companion app on iOS or Android. The same Bots and conversations sync across your signed-in devices."

What does Automation run rate limit exceeded mean?
Answered October 15, 2026. Troubleshooting, Routines.
Cursor's help calls this "a known issue" and says the error "comes from a limit all Grok Bot routines share, not from your own usage." The Cursor status page also recorded this exact error for an October 13 incident.

Can I clear my Grok Bot's history?
Answered October 15, 2026. Bots, Setup.
No. Grok Bot doesn't have a built-in way to clear a Bot's history, and the Bots page doesn't describe one. A computer reset works on the computer, not your chats. The Grok Bot computer help page says "Chats are stored separately, so a computer problem does not delete conversation history by itself."

I had Premium+ or SuperGrok Heavy. Which new plan matches mine, and is it an upgrade or downgrade?
Answered October 13, 2026. Plans and billing.
If you had X Premium+, the docs are clear: choose Premium or higher on The X Subscription to keep your X Premium+ benefits. For SuperGrok Heavy, the official docs don't name a matching new plan, so we can't tell you which one it maps to or whether it's an upgrade or a downgrade. Here's how to compare the plans yourself.

What happens if I switch plans mid-term?
Answered October 13, 2026. Plans and billing.
If you move from an old Cursor, SuperGrok, or X Premium plan to The X Subscription, the old plans you select are cancelled and you get an automatic prorated refund for unused time. Your new plan starts right away at full price, on a new billing cycle. If you're already on The X Subscription and change tiers, timing depends on where you pay. On the web, an upgrade starts immediately. If you pay through Apple on an iPhone or iPad, a downgrade waits until your next billing cycle.

The docs name where to check Grok Bot usage. Before you switch to The X Subscription, the docs say to "open your Cursor dashboard at cursor.com/dashboard." After you switch, they say "on grok.com/dashboard, open Usage." [1]
Your live usage view "shows how much has been used and the next reset date." [2]
If you still get Grok Bot through Cursor or a linked SuperGrok plan, Cursor's help says to open "Settings > Usage & Billing" in Grok Bot. [3]

If I switch to The X Subscription, do I keep long posts and Articles on X?
Answered October 13, 2026. Plans and billing, X.
On Premium, Super, or Ultra, yes. xAI's docs say those plans come with "full X Premium+ benefits." [1] Per X Help (archived copy of October 10, 2026), longer posts of "up to 25,000 characters" are a feature of every X Premium tier, and Premium+ "Includes all Premium features" and lists "Radar Search, and Articles." [2] xAI's docs don't name long posts or Articles themselves, so our yes comes from reading those two pages together.
On Plus, we don't know. The docs describe Plus as "a checkmark, creator tools, and fewer ads on X," [1] and they don't say whether that includes long posts or Articles.
Either way, the benefits only start once you connect your X account. The docs say your X benefits "apply once you connect a personal X account." [1]

Can I split my weekly usage between Grok Bot and Cursor?
Answered October 12, 2026. Plans and billing.
We couldn't find a way to split your weekly usage. On The X Subscription, the weekly pool "is shared across eligible Grok and Cursor surfaces for that seat rather than split into separate product quotas." [1] Grok Bot draws from that same pool: "Bot usage draws from that seat’s shared weekly usage pool, not a separate additive pool." [2]
This applies once you've switched. The docs say "If your account has not switched to The X Subscription, its current billing behavior continues." [3]

Why do Claude or GPT in Cursor use my prepaid credit, and what happens at 100%?
Answered October 12, 2026. Plans and billing.
Third-party models in Cursor, like Claude or GPT, aren't in the plan, so they use prepaid credit from the first use. The docs say: "Third-party models in Cursor aren't included in your plan. They're paid from prepaid credit from the first use."
Past 100% of your plan, use goes on credit until it runs out or your monthly cap is hit. The docs say: "When you reach your spending cap, paid extra usage pauses until the next month or until you raise the cap, even if money remains in your prepaid credit."

Answered October 11, 2026. Setup, Local computer.
Grok Bot can use your Mac, with limits. It runs commands on your Mac only after you turn on local commands and approve them, and your Mac stays separate from the bot's cloud computer.

Why didn't my Grok Bot usage reset with SuperGrok?
Answered October 11, 2026. Plans and billing.
It depends on whether you've switched to The X Subscription. If you haven't, your Grok Bot usage is not counted on Grok. Cursor's plans page says "Grok Bot usage is metered on your Cursor account, not on Grok or X," and a SuperGrok link "does not create a second meter on Grok or X." [1] The page also says that usage "resets weekly," but it doesn't say which day, so we won't guess. [1]
If you've switched, "your Grok Bot usage entitlement will come from the new weekly shared pool." [3] Once that pool runs out, "Additional Usage is paid from prepaid top-up credit." [4] To check, the docs say: "After switching: on grok.com/dashboard, open Usage." [3]

Why doesn't Grok Bot reply when I tag it on X?
Answered October 10, 2026. Tagging, X.
If the Grok Bot account on X doesn't reply, your bot never got the request. xAI's docs give one common reason: "Grok Bot isn't linked to your Grok account, or your weekly usage is used up." Tagging also needs "Grok Bot access on that same Grok account," meaning the Grok account connected to your X account. You also need a bot of your own.
X Premium isn't on the docs' "Before you start" list. That list has four items: "A Grok account with your X account connected", "Grok Bot access on that same Grok account", "At least one Bot of your own", "An X account based in a region where tagging is available."

How do I set up Grok Bot?

First you need access. If you're on The X Subscription, Cursor's plans page says, "Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super, and Ultra, for individuals and for team seats. Plus and Free don't include it." If you're still on a legacy Cursor plan, the same page says, "On legacy Cursor plans, Grok Bot access is included on every paid individual plan and on Cursor Teams." A Cursor staff member adds that on an individual legacy plan with request-based pricing, "Grok Bot isn’t available through any route." How do I link my plan to Grok Bot?
Answered October 10, 2026. Plans and billing, Setup.
It depends on whether you've switched to The X Subscription. If you have, there's nothing to link: "Grok Bot is available as soon as you subscribe to or unify on one of these plans," and "Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super, and Ultra plans." [3] The plans page adds, "Plus and Free don't include it." [1]
If you haven't switched, your current setup continues: "Switching is optional. If you don’t switch, your current plan continues." [3] On a legacy Cursor plan, a paid plan needs no link, because "On legacy Cursor plans, Grok Bot access is included on every paid individual plan and on Cursor Teams." [1] A Cursor staff member says one exception applies: on an individual legacy plan with request-based pricing, "Grok Bot isn’t available through any route, and that includes linking a SuperGrok subscription." With SuperGrok or X Premium+, you "Link your Grok account from the Grok Bot plan screen." [1]
